While you’re watching a basketball game, It may seem like the announcers are talking really loud. One question that comes to mind is whether or not basketball players could hear commentators.

The answer is no majority of the time. Although they are court side, the surrounding noise from the crowd makes it very hard for the players to hear what the commentators are saying. This is done purposefully to give the people cheering at home the idea of how the crowd is reacting in certain situations. The only chance players really have at hearing is if they are at the scorers table looking to check into the game, this is because the scorers table is usually much closer to the commentators.

Below we have an exception of Stephen Curry pointing at the commentators after missing a free throw. However, we’re unsure of whether or not Steph actually heard what the commentators were saying or just assumed that they jinxed him.

If NBA Players Can’t Hear Each Other Over The Noise, How Do Announcers Hear Each Other?

They wear head sets to both block out the surrounding noise. Those same head sets also have feed back so they could hear themselves as well as each other. Having these headsets on really allow the commentating to be heard loud and clear by everyone watching the game.

It’s similar to the in ear monitors that singers wear in order to hear themselves singing. Otherwise, they would not be able to hear if they sound good or not.

Conclusion
